A HEARTWARMING STORY FROM THE HORSE’S MOUTH

one armed teenagerA 14 year old girl decided to learn karate despite the fact that she had lost her left arm in a devastating car accident. The girl was doing well, so she couldn’t understand why, after six months of training the karate teacher had taught her only a single move.

“Teacher” the girl finally said, “Shouldn’t I be learning more moves?”

“This is the only move you know, but this is the only move you’ll ever need to know,” her teacher replied.

Not quite understanding, but believing in her teacher, the girl kept training.

AN OLD CATHOLIC JOKE FROM THE HORSE’S MOUTH

from-the-horses-mouthMiracle?

Father O’Malley was driving down to Boston when he got stopped for speeding in Medford. The highway patrol officer smelled alcohol on the priest’s breath and then saw an empty wine bottle on the floor of the car.

He said, “Father, have you been drinking?”

“Only water”, replied Father O’Malley.

The policeman asked, “Then how come I can smell wine?”

The priest looked at the bottle and said, “Good Lord! He’s done it again”.

nickyINTERVIEW WITH NICOLA FRASER

Nicolla, can you tell me a bit about Nevis where you come from? Nevis is 36 square miles and has roughly 11,000 inhabitants.

Is it hot all the time there? Yes. It’s hot all the time but in winter you feel a bit chilly.

How would you describe Nevisians? They are friendly and care about each other.

Is there a lot of work in Nevis? No, there is not full employment – the government depends on tourism for its income. Things are expensive in Nevis though.

Do you mean food? Food is expensive but it’s still manageable.

Do most people work in tourism? Yes, even though we don’t have a port where cruise ships can dock, some tourists come over from our sister island St. Kitts via a ferry.

What is the capital of Nevis? The capital of Nevis is Charlestown and the capital of Nevis and St. Kitts is Basseterre.

NEWS FROM THE HORSE’S MOUTH

from-the-horses-mouthHello. The magazine is doing well but is always on the lookout for new original material – the beauty of the mag is that anyone can write in it as long as it is not racist or offensive. At the moment, I am promoting a short story competition with cash prizes and you can enter by sending your story of up to 2,500 words to deancharltonmag.com. It will be officially advertised in my August mag at: http://www.deancharltonmag.com

At the moment, I have a Nevisian lady staying with me and I intend to interview her about her perceptions of England and of a developed country. Her first impressions are very positive but she finds our hot weather cool and sometimes chilly!
